The amount of detail allows the reader’s understanding to flow smoothly from one concept to the next. Throughout my readings I did not notice any errors and all of the material was up-to-date. Terms are explained concisely and within the context of an example. In this course (intro level comprehensive course) I don't worry too much about the latest evidence. The Research Methods chapter was also clearly written and easy to read. I aim for 30-35 page chapters. Since this text contains all the units available, it’s pretty overwhelming, though thematically organized. There is so much material to choose from, literally 88 topics, modules, chapters, sections to choose from that an instructor has the freedom to pick and choose and customize even to the extent of the depth of the material covered. These can then be used as a resource for studying for chapter post reading quizzes and for unit exams. Journalism, Media Studies & Communications. The multitude of authors lends to some inconsistency with the "voice" of this text. All chapters follow the same structure. In fact, there are numerous access points presented to the readers enabling them to compare and contrast the different viewpoints without having to do much more than click on a link or two. The material itself is divided into rather small units. Chapters can easily be assigned in a different order than those presented in the book. Consistency would be an issue with this type of text in which every chapter is written by a different author, from sometimes very different backgrounds. Each chapter's sub-units are well-organized. In an introductory course, students need to see an image like the one at the beginning of chapter 1, a picture of diversity from race, to gender, to age, to occupation. I do wish that gender had a contemporary discussion.

These questions would be useful for in-class discussions, assignments, and/ or exams. The content provides examples that current students can relate to in order to better understand the material, but is not too “trendy”. It would be worth telling the reader this material will be covered in more detail in chapter 4.
