Ethan is a rancher at the Tin Star takes in Jamie (his friend John's younger brother) when he is kicked out of his house after. This was a perfect book to renew my interest. This book is not yet featured on Listopia. by Roaring Brook Press. I was lucky enough to get an arc copy of this book and I stayed up until the wee hours reading it because, uhm, I couldn't put it down. Both were about the same at the end of the story as at the beginning. But was my mind ever changed very shortly after starting Tin Star. A career petty thief now, Tula feels the ever-present and watchful eyes of the law on her. Refresh and try again. This was a very sweet cowboy story about a young man named Jamie who has had a crush on his older brothers best friend Ethan since he was a kid. I LOVED this book. Fast, fun, sexy. [One of my main issues was with the basic premise - gay guy comes out to his entire hick town and then is OMG!shocked! There are no discussion topics on this book yet. I love science fiction and Tin Star is a great new addition to the sci-fi pantheon. The old west settlements of the US are given a new science fiction setting, with aliens replacing indians and with the settlers this time at the disadvantage to the indigenous species. Meh. It read like it was directed at 8th graders....except for the non-stop...and I do mean non stop...references to hard-ons.

Stranded and alone, the only human on an alien space station, Tula learns to survive by any means from Heckleck, an insect-like creature. This was a sweet read, with the right amount of angst (not too much, thankfully) to prevent it from being completely unrealistic. This, no doubt, is a cute story, but it was far too sophomoric for my taste. Crisp good writing.

I like the little touches, like the hat-stealing horse! His lifelong best friend John, also runs a ranch with the help of his little brother Jamie. The plot moves very quickly as we begin to see Tula make friends and love some of her new friends. Brother Blue has other plans for the humans and Tula is abandoned at the space station fearing that her family and the others have perished at the hand of the one person they trusted to save them. Both Jamie and Ethan were nice characters...just nice. Tula is beaten and left for dead by the leader that has been chosen to lead a human space ship to a new colony and a better future. "The Tin Star" is a short story, which appeared in Colliers Magazine in 1947, and was adapted into the film "High Noon" in 1952, which starred Gary Cooper alongside Grace Kelly. It read like it was directed at 8th graders....except for the non-stop...and I do mean non stop...references to hard-ons. Start by marking “The Tin Star (Ranch Series, #1)” as Want to Read: Error rating book. I didn't really care much about car-buying phone calls to Jamie's sister. Is Tula attracted to one of them in a romantic way or will she discover someone else may be the one for her? A career p. What started as a promise of a new beginning on a distant planet for Tula Bane and her family turns into a nightmare of death, destruction and brutal deceit at the hands of a man Tula had once trusted with her life. Along with the motormouth, JL also displayed a very vivid imagination and artistic ability.

Among her hobbies she includes reading, practicing her marksmanship (she happens to be a great shot), gardening, working out (although she despises cardio), searching for the perfect chocolate dessert (so far as she can tell ALL chocolate is perfect, but it requires more research) and arguing with her husband over who the air compressor and nail gun really belongs to (they belong to JL, although she might be willing to trade him for his new chainsaw). I know this is a rather shocking concept, but it is possible that there are one or two people out there who think being gay is a sin, but don't want to kill every gay man they meet. If you cut out half the descriptive details and pointless shopping trips this would have been a great read. it just went on and on about nothing. She taught tap, jazz and ballet for fifteen years before settling into her career as a writer. JL has been talking since she was about seven months old. The Tin Star has been sitting on my tbr shelf for months. You know the saying: There's no time like the present...unless you're looking for a distraction from the current moment. Tula must find her way in this foreign environment and begin to form relationships. The elevator pitch for this must have been something like "Podkayne of Mars meets the Mos Eisley Cantina on Babylon 5. December 6th 1947 But was my mind ever changed very shortly after starting Tin Star. Quick read and surprisingly enjoyable. This ticks all the boxes ... sexy cowboys; friends to lovers; coming out; David verses Goliath battles to be accepted as gay in a small community ... James and Ethan were a cute couple who, despite their insta-love plot line, leave the reader satisfied with their HEA ... the angst is a bit melodramatic but enjoyable to read despite that ... the secondary characters were fun to read about too ... this is a fun, easy to read, sexy romp ... there are some laughs in the mix too ... highly recommende. There are no answers here, but the questions are loud and clear - and for some, the answers are obvious. Why are some of us sheepdogs, willing to face the wolves and others are sheep.

And if I had read one more time about "Blue E. Meh.

A quick read, but all of the guys talked with exclamation points all the time, and it was far too sappy for my tastes. [Example: I would have loved it if Tula had gone down to the planet below the station, but, unfortunately, that wasn't in the cards. Langley had on offer at LooseID while I had the chance :( can only hope she rereleases this one like she's doing with the Englor/Regelence books. YAY!! At eighteen months, she was speaking in full sentences. Tin Star is an amazing new series that pushes what we have seen so far in space novels.

Crazy, I know. [When Jamie was born, his brother John was 11 years old and his sister Julia was 9 years old. Action, loss, despair, treachery, humanity, and fear--you'll find some of each and more.

I'll just say upfront that I am not a reader of sci fi that includes aliens. When John comes to Ethan and tells him that that Jamie came out to their father and their father kicked him off the ranch, Ethan does what you do for friends.

and more horrible comments that are not worth mentioning. 3.75 stars. The artist first surfaced in way of drawing and painting, then became more apparent with dance. It seemed to go on for ever about totally pointless crap. It is easy to follow and Tula is a great leading lady. This was a bitter sweet story of a cowboy that comes out to his family. Jamie, the child who followed them in adoration during their young hood rides; blue-eyed, happy-go-lucky Jamie whom Ethan always has seen as his you. It's as if the aliens at a bar pit scene in a sf movie became the world a young woman must learn to manipulate and discover herself...looking forward to the next book in the series. Hm. Perfect! I'll admit it...I don't get it. And if I had read one more time about "Blue Eyes" and "Daddy" I think I would have puked. If you're 16 and you are allowed to read adult fiction, go for it. It's sad. This book was fairly awful.

This book was freaking scorchingly hot. Will prejudice against homosexuals ever end? This has all the makings of a series that will rival Hunger Games in it's originality and scope.
